Why do these women take a hiatus from work?
There are a variety of reasons but the most common one is to care for others. Raising children and caring for an ailing family member are good examples.
Do returning women take their careers seriously?
Absolutely! We often hear how amazed our corporate partners are at the drive and work ethic returning women have. These women are usually excited about reapplying their brainpower to a thriving and challenging work environment.
Is there a risk in hiring someone who hasn't worked for a significant period of time?
There is always risk associated with the hiring process. This is true when hiring college graduates, experienced professionals, or women returning to the workforce. This is why the WBW program encourages hiring on a contract-to-hire basis. This allows employers and women alike to evaluate fit before committing to a full-time engagement.
Are the WBW candidates diverse?
Yes. We use a variety of sourcing strategies to ensure that we reach and help a fully diverse group of Returner job seekers. This includes diversity associated with race, socio-economic status, religion, age, sexual orientation, etc. We understand the power of diversity and inclusion in the workplace and strive to provide a diverse talent pool for our partner companies.
What types of roles are returners interested in?
WBW candidates are seasoned professionals with varying backgrounds and expertise. Most are simply looking for an opportunity to prove themselves. They have fulfilled whatever duty it was that pulled them away from the workplace and are now looking to get back into the workforce in a full-time or contract role where they can contribute and apply their expertise.
Are returners up-to-date on tools and technologies?
All of WBW’s Returners are up-to-date on tools and technologies before being presented to a client. Our technical recruiting team works with each Returner to uncover any potential shortcomings in their technical knowledge and then recommends courses, training, or certifications to ensure they are up-to-speed.
In addition, the women who contact WBW are usually very serious about restarting their careers and have often spent the time to figure out what knowledge is needed to land the role they want before we even speak with them.
Do returners need extra time off from work?
No. In fact, because returners have been planning their return to the workplace, they often take less time off once hired. We consistently hear from hiring managers about the amazing work ethic and energy level of returners.
How does Women Back to Work find returner candidates?
There are many ways that we source candidates for our program. They include targeted advertising on Facebook and Instagram, partnerships with local mom groups, coding boot camps, SEO efforts, media outreach, and good old fashion word-of-mouth. Many returning women belong to online and offline groups and often share their WBW experience with other group members.
Do our managers need any sort of special training when hiring women returners?
Most returners have been out of the workforce for a few years at most. Some less than that. So hiring a returner is very similar to any new hire. There have been instances, however, where returners were out of the workforce for 15 years or more. These returners may need a little extra hand-holding as they adapt to a workplace that is significantly different then what they left. But our experience shows that they are very motivated to learn and adapt very quickly.
What if my company already has a Returner program? Can we still partner with WBW?
Absolutely! Many of our partners have successful programs for attracting and hiring Returners but want to enhance their technical talent pipeline. Women Back to Work can do that.
Which companies does Women Back to Work currently partner with?
